Providence, RI (November 30, 2009) – Providence's Bay Colony Dog Show is one of the nation's largest American Kennel Club (AKC) dog events, and has moved to Providence after 100 years in Boston. Sponsored by Pedigree, this four-day all-breed American Kennel Club dog show will be held December 3-6, 2009 at the Rhode Island Convention Center (One Sabin Street) in downtown Providence. NOTE: you can’t bring your dog to the dog show, but you can bring him home a treat!
The Bay Colony Dog Show attracts 5,548 entries, nearly 60 holiday shopping vendors and public service booths, and over 15,000 spectators. In addition to "Best in Show" competition, this year's show features such family-friendly weekend activities as dog obedience education, a kids’ play area, a Park Avenue Puppy’s fashion show on Sunday with Lite Rock 105, and "Bark Avenue" filled with high quality holiday shopping for dog lovers!
On Saturday and Sunday, enjoy "Meet the Breed" sessions featuring "Famous Dogs in the White House and on TV, Film and in Advertising." Breeders will be available to talk about their famous dog’s special qualities, and you can find out if that particular breed is the right pet for you and your lifestyle. Also on Saturday and Sunday, enjoy a Solid K-9 Obedience Demo, Bailey’s Kids Korner, Park Avenue Puppy’s Fashion Show on Sunday, and much more.
Roam the show’s "backstage" grooming areas, filled with over 150 different types of purebred dogs being primped for their turn in the show ring, and talk with the groomers, handlers and owners -- maybe you'll meet the breeder that will find you the perfect addition for your family!
A nonprofit organization promoting responsible dog breeding and ownership, Providence's Bay Colony Dog Show is managed by three AKC purebred dog organizations: Middlesex County Kennel Club, Ladies Dog Club, and Eastern Dog Club. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; tickets are $12 adults/seniors and $7 for children under 12. Visit www.baycolonydogshow.com for ring schedules and a discount on admission.
