Covidien buys Orthofix vascular line

MANSFIELD – Covidien Plc has purchased Orthofix International N.V.’s vascular business, including its AV-Impulse mechanical compression technology, Orthofix said this week.

Orthofix, a Boston-based maker of medical equipment, said it expects net cash proceeds of up to $19 million from the sale. Covidien did not comment on the purchase.

Orthofix will provide Covidien with transition services for up to five months as part of the agreement. The company will also provide Covidien with two years’ worth of Impads, which are used with the compression therapy devices being sold, as well as 90 days’ supply of additional products relating to the vascular business.
