Verizon wireless network 5 or 6 times faster

PROVIDENCE – Verizon Wireless customers in Rhode Island can now access e-mail, corporate data, the Internet and more at faster speeds and upload files five to six times faster than before, as the company rolls out the next generation of its high-speed broadband network.

The enhanced wireless broadband network – based on CDMA 1x Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) Revision A technology – is now available in and around Providence, Cranston, Warwick, Barrington, Bristol, Portsmouth, Middletown, Newport, Narragansett and Block Island.

The new technology provides customers sending and uploading data with uplink speeds even faster than the company's national EV-DO network, which is available throughout the state.

"The faster uplink speeds will greatly benefit customers that upgrade to Rev A-compatible devices," said Ken Dixon, New England regional president of Verizon Wireless.
