WEST WARWICK – Astro-Med Inc. (NASDAQ: ALOT) has been awarded a $3 million multi-year contract by Boeing Integrated Defense Systems.

The contract calls for replacing the cockpit printers used on Boeing’s C-17 Globemaster III military transport aircraft with Astro-Med’s new ToughWriter 4, which also will be installed in new production aircraft.

The planes now all have the ToughWriter 3, which Astro-Med has been supplying to Boeing IDS for the C-17 since 2002. The new printer is the same size but offers more features, Astro-Med said.

“Engineering of the printers will begin immediately so as to smoothly transition from the present ToughWriter 3 to the new ToughWriter 4,” said Tom Carll, sales manager for the company’s T&M product group.

“The printer will be used in the cockpit of the C-17 for printing maps, approach plates, aircraft weight and balance information and ground communications,” Carll added.
