L.A. picks 22 intersections for Nestor systems
PROVIDENCE – Nestor Traffic Systems Inc. yesterday announced that the Los Angeles City Council has approved 22 intersections for its automated traffic-enforcement program.
These are in addition to the initial 10 wet-film intersections already being converted to Nestor’s video-based technology. To date, NTS has completed installations at 16 approaches of the 64 authorized under its contract.
“Red light cameras are proven public safety winners,” Jack Weiss, chairman of the council’s Public Safety Committee, told the Los Angeles Times in comments published Oct. 17, “and in the coming years, I hope we will see dozens more intersections receiving coverage.”
According to William Danzell, chief executive officer of NTS, “We appreciate the opportunity to offer our traffic-enforcement tools to the LAPD and will continue to work with the City to enforce traffic laws where our system is needed.”
Nestor Traffic Systems, a subsidiary of Providence-based Nestor Inc. (Nasdaq: NEST), is a provider of advanced red-light and speed-enforcement systems and services to state and municipal governments. For more information, call 274-5658 or visit www.nestor.com.
