SOUTHPORT, Conn. – Multicultural business Web site DiversityBusiness.com Thursday announced the release of its seventh annual lists of the top 100 and 500 small businesses nationwide.
With annual 2005 revenue ranging from just under $1 million to about $2.6 billion, DiversityBusiness.com said in its statement, the companies “represent the nation’s top small business earners.” They will be honored in a special ceremony at DiversityBusiness.com’s 7th Annual Multicultural Business Conference, April 11 to 13, at the Mirage in Las Vegas.
“Diversity-owned businesses contribute over $1.4 trillion in sales to the U.S. economy,” noted Kenton Clarke, CEO of Computer Consulting Associates International, the company that built DiversityBusiness.com.
Listed among the nationwide top 500 in Rhode Island were:
• Banneker Industries Inc., in Lincoln, a black American and woman-owned firm, under principal Cheryl Snead, with 2005 sales of $4.8 million
• Advertising Ventures Inc., a Hispanic American firm in Providence, under principal Stephen Rosa, with $3.5 million
• Econotel Business Systems, a woman-owned firm in East Providence, under principal Carol Ann Hurley, with $2.3 million
• Artifex Technology Consulting Inc., a woman-owned firm in Lincoln, under principal Jenna Schmidt, with $1.0 million
• Mathews Bros. Inc., a woman-owned firm in Cranston, under principal Arlene Mathews, with less than $1 million
Topping the DiversityBusiness list nationwide were:
• Software House International Inc., an Asian-American-owned firm in Somerset, N.J., at $2.6 billion in 2005 revenue
• World Wide Technology Inc., a Hispanic-owned firm in St. Louis, with $1.8 billion
• Ensemble Workforce Solutions, an Asian-American-owned firm in Los Angeles, with 1.4 billion
• Omega World Travel, a woman-owned firm in Fairfax, Va., with $1.3 billion.
“This group represents the entrepreneurial spirit that drives our economy, and even more,” said Omega World Travel CEO Gloria Bohan. “It offers insights into a vastness of cultures and an exchange of ideas that are so valuable in helping me to understand how to reach the needs of today’s consumers.”
