West Warwick, RI – Cox Communications New England was the recent recipient of a 2012 Beacon Award. The awards are presented annually by the Association of Cable Communicators (ACC) honoring excellence in cable communications and public affairs work from multiple system operators, cable systems, programming networks, and cable associations.

Cox’s winning entry in the category of “Multicultural Public Relations” category is for its Toma El Control Series, a three part educational series on Take-Charge, an initiative designed to help parents manage their children’s access to mass media content. Toma El Control, a partnership with Latino Public Radio WELH 88.1 FM was produced and aired in Spanish.

“We’re honored to be recognized by our cable industry peers with a Beacon Award,” said John Wolfe, senior vice president and general manager of Cox Communications New England-Cleveland. “Through Toma El Control we empowered parents in the Latino community to be more aware of their children’s access to mass media content.”

From the many entries received in this year’s Beacon Award competition, 41 winners were chosen by cable communications professionals in an extensive two-phase judging process. The number of entries represents company initiatives implemented over the past year, in areas such as community relations, education, and public service announcements.
