PROVIDENCE, R.I. — June 13, 2012 — For the second year in a row, students from the Johnson & Wales University (JWU) College of Business “Ad Team” achieved a third place finish in the American Advertising Federation’s National Student Advertising Competition held in Austin, TX, from June 2 through 5. The JWU team placed ahead of the University of Miami, Syracuse University, and Penn State University, among others. The JWU team also received Special Recognition for the best Plans Book, a booklet presented to each judge outlining the advertising strategy. In the District One regional competition held in April, the JWU team again placed first (for the second year in a row) and was one of 19 out of 153 teams nationwide to be chosen to head to the finals.
Students from Rhode Island that competed on the Ad Team include: Stephanie Amaral, Cumberland; Brenda Florez, North Providence; Ryan Healey, Providence; Michelle Kawas Canales, Providence; Will Kelleher, Cranston; Alicia Leite, East Greenwich; Paul Liotta, Providence; and Conor Mitchell, Johnston.
The challenge was to create a full advertising campaign for Nissan USA, consisting of broadcast commercials (for both television and radio), and copy for magazine, billboard, Facebook and Twitter ads that would appeal to a younger and more diverse demographic than is currently attracted by Nissan.

Awesome write up! I’m glad to say I worked as creative director for the JWU ad team.
I wrote a personal blog post that’s a little more subjective than the above post, it goes over our process and how passionately involved we were in the whole competition. You can check it out here: http://roberskine.com/blog/johnson-wales-advertising-team-takes-third-at-the-aafs-national-student-advertising-competition/
I also have a couple links up on my portfolio that showcases the print and broadcast work we did. You can check them out here respectively http://roberskine.com/projects/nsac-2012-nissan-print/ and http://roberskine.com/projects/nsac-2012-nissan-broadcase/
