Program allowing Resident Permit Parking moves forward
PROVIDENCE, RI, September 1, 2010—Steven Meresi, the endorsed Democratic candidate for city councilman in Ward 13, recently announced that city officials have approved a petition allowing on-street overnight parking in the North side of Ward 13. Meresi led the drive that generated over 300 signatures from area residents petitioning on-street overnight parking. Several city departments reviewed the area designated for Resident Permit Parking before the petition was approved
An information meeting on the new program will be held on September 8 at 6:00 p.m. at the Public Safety Complex Auditorium, 325 Washington Street, in Providence. The meeting will give residents more program details and a chance to discuss the program further with public safety representatives. A second meeting is scheduled for the fall.
“A pilot program on Providence’s West End worked out well,” says Meresi. “Residents and city officials were happy with it. We’ve received approval from the city for a similar program on the North side of the Ward. We expect it to be just as well received there as it was in the West End. Overnight parking benefits both home owners and renters.”
Meresi is co-founder of the Federal Hill Community Coalition (FHCC), vice president of the Federal Hill House, and a member of the Federal Hill Commerce Association. He is also a member of the Federal Hill Knights of Columbus, the Italo-American Club of Rhode Island, and the Sons of Italy Club. Meresi is a life long resident of Federal Hill and the owner of Palmeri’s Bakery, the oldest bakery in Rhode Island.
Previously, Meresi was an analyst for Complete Business Solutions from 1999-2001. Before that, he was with Anderson Consulting, where he was a junior analyst from 1997-1999.
Meresi is a 1997 graduate of Rhode Island College, where he studied business management and computer information systems. He is also a graduate of LaSalle Academy, Providence, and of Holy Ghost School, Providence. He is the son of Anthony and Andalgisa Meresi, who were lifelong residents of Federal Hill.
