Providence among nation’s most frugal cities, Coupons.com says

PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island’s capital city is one of the most frugal in the United States based on its digital coupon use, according to Coupons.com, which released its ranking of America’s Most Frugal Cities on Thursday.

Washington, D.C., is the most frugal place in the country. Providence made the top 20, coming in 17th, three spots better than last year. Boston was 12th most frugal, moving up four spots from last year.

Shoppers in Washington, D.C., selected more than 23 million digital coupons last year, totaling more than $31 million in savings and overtaking Orlando, Fla., as No. 1 for the first time in the seven-year history of the index.

In 2016, Quotient Technology Inc., which runs Coupons.com, said it delivered more than 2.4 billion digital coupons to consumers.

“The Most Frugal Cities list from Coupons.com demonstrates that shoppers throughout the country are using coupons to stretch their dollars,” Jeanette Pavini, Coupons.com consumer savings expert, said in a statement. “People work hard to earn a living, want to get the most out of their money, and they are saving hundreds of dollars a year by using digital coupons.”
