NEW BEDFORD – Southcoast Health announced Wednesday it has joined the Massachusetts Value Alliance, a best practices network which shares ideas and data on how to drive down costs and improve care.

Linda Bodenmann, Southcoast Health’s executive vice president and chief operating officer, heralded the move as “a great opportunity to work with other community health systems to share some of the initiatives and best practices that we all have established.”

Modeled after the Connecticut-based Value Care Alliance, MVA was founded by Emerson Hospital in Concord, South Shore Medical Center in South Weymouth and Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro.

The collaboration allows health systems to collectively negotiate contracts for services such as elevator and equipment maintenance, food service and environmental services. In addition, MVA facilitates collective negotiating for third party administrators, stop-loss insurance for self-insured health plans and pharmacy benefit management.
