PAWTUCKET – Electronic Arts Inc., the world’s largest video-game publisher, will create titles based on Hasbro Inc.’s Monopoly, Scrabble and Yahtzee board games. The company also bought exclusive rights to use Hasbro’s brands, including “Nerf” and “Tonka” for as many as 10 years, according to Bloomberg News.
The Hasbro titles created by Electronic Art’s casual entertainment unit are expected to go on sale next year. The division formed in June by CEO of Electronic Arts Inc. John Riccitiello is an effort to broaden the game maker’s appeal beyond action and sports titles.
The announcement comes on the heels of the Pawtucket company’s second-quarter revenue growth of 31 percent, a jump that was propelled by Transformers and Marvel movie-related products. The company’s total revenue for the second quarter was $691.4 million.
