PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices in Rhode Island have increased over the past week for the first time in 10 weeks, though the price of self-serve regular still lags the $2.689 per gallon of one month earlier, according to AAA Southern New England.
AAA’s Sept. 24 survey of prices at local stations found self-serve, unleaded regular gas averaging $2.679 per gallon, an increase of 2 cents per gallon from the previous week’s average price and 14 cents from the year-ago average of $2.539.
Nationwide this week, a gallon of self-serve regular was going for an average of $2.809, 13 cents more than in Rhode Island.
The nonprofit auto club found prices at Ocean State stations had a range of 17 cents, from a low of $2.629 to a high of $2.799. Wider ranges were seen for other grades of fuel.
Average self-serve prices this week were $2,839 for midgrade unleaded; $2.949 for premium unleaded and $3.139 for diesel.
