CVS/pharmacy sales rise 5.0% in September


WOONSOCKET – For the period ended Sept. 29, CVS Caremark Corp. (NYSE: CVS) today posted a 5.0-percent increase in same-store sales compared with the same period last year.

Pharmacy sales at CVS/pharmacy stores open at least a year increased 4.3 percent compared with the same period of 2006, despite the 550-basis-point negative impact of recent generic-drug introductions. Front-end same store sales increased 6.3 percent.

During the five-week period, CVS/pharmacy opened 17 new stores, closed 3 stores and relocated 13, giving the division a total of 6,206 stores in 40 states and the District of Columbia as of Sept. 29.
