MetLife grants $40K to 3 organizations
for work on city safety
The Olneyville Housing Corporation, the Providence Police Department, and the Institute for the Study & Practice of Nonviolence have received a combined $40,000 award from the MetLife Foundation for their work in creating “safer, more livable neighborhoods.”
The Providence Police Department and the Olneyville Housing Corporation received a $25,000 first place Neighborhood Revitalization Award, for their collaborative effort in acquiring vacant and “nuisance” properties in Olneyville and replacing them with 51 new affordable homes.

The Institute for the Study & Practice of Nonviolence got a $15,000 special category award under Gang Prevention & Youth Safety for their Streetworkers program, which trains youth in the community to mediate gang conflicts and intervene in neighborhood disputes.
