Welcome to Providence Business News’ seventh annual special issue presenting the Business Excellence Awards.

In the following pages, we once again feature the winning companies and their leaders through this, our longest-standing celebration of the Rhode Island business community. It is a task we enjoy more each year. Whether through strong, forward-thinking leadership, entrepreneurial spirit or community engagement, the enterprises you see in this section demonstrate a dynamism that gives us all reason to be confident in the state’s future.

The task of selecting this year’s winners was – as it always is – a difficult one. But it is one in which we take great pleasure, thanks to the group of dedicated business leaders who volunteer their time to take part in the process (they are listed on page 4 of this issue). At the same time, we take our work very seriously and, as a result, once again we have another list of well-deserving winners.

The presenting sponsor for this year’s edition of the Business Excellence Awards is Bank Rhode Island. Our partners are Bryant University; Cox Communications; Lefkowitz, Garfinkel, Champi & DeRienzo; Mastors & Servant; and Partridge, Snow & Hahn. The awards ceremony was held Nov. 29 at the Providence Marriott Downtown.

Thank you to the many companies that submitted applications – more than 300 have competed for the awards in the seven years that PBN has been conferring the Business Excellence Awards. I encourage those companies that did not win this year to try again in 2008.

Sincerely,

Roger C. Bergenheim, publisher
