R.I. Hospital imaging residency program is No. 1

PROVIDENCE – The Brown University diagnostic imaging residency program at Rhode Island Hospital has been ranked as the No. 1 program of its kind in the country by the American Board of Radiology, according to an annoucement today by Rhode Island Hospital and The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.

The American Board of Radiology annually measures residency training programs by the previous five years’ written and oral board examinations, Rhode Island Hospital said in a statement. This year, the local program won the highest score out of 186 training programs across the country.

“The physician faculty work hard to ensure that our residents are receiving the best possible training, and we are proud of this recognition,” said Dr. Martha Mainiero. The director of the diagnostic imaging residency program, she also serves as director of the Anne C. Pappas Center for Breast Imaging at Rhode Island Hospital and as an associate professor of diagnostic imaging at Brown.

“We also recognize the link between superb teaching and quality clinical care, so we know that not only are we providing excellent training, but our patients are receiving the best possible care as well,” Mainiero said.

“This top ranking is a reflection of the high standards and hard work at Rhode Island Hospital and Alpert Medical School of Brown University,” said Eli Y. Adashi, dean of medicine and biological sciences at Brown Universtity.

Currently, there are 28 residents enrolled in the program.
