THE OPENING of the MGM Grand at Foxwoods – the dark tower at right – will give the Foxwoods Resort Casino another 115,000 square feet of event space, in addition to the 45,000 square feet already available, permitting the resort to host gatherings of 10 to 3,500 people, Foxwoods said.

MASHANTUCKET, Conn., and BOSTON – Foxwoods Resort Casino is teaming up with event and destination management company NXTevent to expand its meetings and conventions offerings, the companies said today.

The Boston company brings a “reputation for executing professional and flawless programs and events across New England, [which] bolsters Foxwoods Resort Casino’s and MGM Grand at Foxwoods’ ability to host the region’s most unparalleled meetings and conventions,” said Joan Esneault, vice president of resort sales for Foxwoods and the MGM Grand, the resort’s new hotel slated to open in May. NXTevent will work with Foxwoods’ in-house staff to provide a variety of destination management services – including airport meet and greet, off-site activities, teambuilding excursions, registration services, program staffing, touring, recreational and hospitality programs and entertainment production – developing and implementing customized program-management plans “to ensure that every event … is unforgettable,” the companies said.

With 45,000 square feet of meeting space, Foxwoods already is a popular site for meetings, conventions and other large-scale events. The MGM Grand will add another 115,000 square feet of event space, including a ballroom that Foxwoods says will be the largest in the Northeast.

The 2 million-square-foot hotel also will bring Foxwoods another 825 guest rooms and suites, the 21,000-square-foot G Spa, a 50,000-square-foot casino, a 4,000-seat Performing Arts Theater, several lounges and clubs, three celebrity-chef restaurants and several retail outlets.

Foxwoods Resort Casino, opened in 1992, now comprises a 4.7 million-square-foot complex that includes six casinos totaling 340,000 square feet of gaming space; three hotels – the Grand Pequot Tower, Great Cedar Hotel and Two Trees Inn – totaling more than 1,400 guest rooms, 25 conference rooms and 55,000 square feet of meeting space; a luxury spa; and restaurants, entertainment and retail venues.
