WARWICK – The R.I. Airport Corporation will receive $5 million in Federal Aviation Administration funding to acquire homes near T.F. Green Airport, according to U.S. Sen. Jack Reed and RIAC President and CEO Kevin Dillon.

“This $5 million, allocated to the important voluntary home-acquisition program, will accelerate the buyout of additional homes in Warwick,” Dillon said.

The program – part of the noise mitigation and abatement effort at T.F. Green – will use the new funding to acquire 21 homes affected by aircraft noise.

“This program continues to provide an alternative for families around T.F. Green Airport who have been forced to cope with airport noise,” Reed, a member of the Appropriations Committee, which oversees funding for the program, said in a statement from Washington, D.C.

Reed previously has brought key FAA officials to the state to show them the effect the airport’s expansion has had on the surrounding community. He also has urged the FAA to carefully study planned increases in airport traffic (READ MORE) to determine what additional steps would be needed to abate the increased airport noise, and has secured a commitment to higher FAA funding for local soundproofing efforts.

Local officials “are appreciative of the efforts of Senator Reed and the [other] members of our congressional delegation to obtain federal funding for important airport projects,” Dillon said.

The R.I. Airport Corporation is a quasi-public organization, based at T.F. Green Airport (PVD) in Warwick, that oversees Green and the state’s five general aviation airports. Additional information is available at www.pvdairport.com.
