PROVIDENCE – Pawel Wrotek, a 2005 graduate of Brown University who now works for electronic games developer Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS), will conduct a lecture this Wednesday, April 23, about making the transition from college to a job with a large game company.
“Going from Brown to a Large Freakin’ Huge Game Company” – the latest lecture in Brown’s Innovating Game Development Speaker Series – will be held at 11 a.m. in the fourth-floor Lubrano Conference Room of Brown University’s Thomas J. Watson Sr. Center for Information Technology. The CIT is at 115 Waterman St., next to the university Sciences Library.
Wrotek is a software engineer at the EA Sims Label in Redwood Shores, Calif. Since joining EA, he has been working on Sims 3, due to be released next year.
He will discuss various programs at EA Redwood Shores that are designed to provide support and growth opportunities for recent college graduates. He also will also give a recent college graduate’s perspective of some of the day-to-day, week-to-week and month-to-month processes the Sims Label uses to coordinate a very large team working on an enormous project.
“While more and more people are interested in entering the game industry, many are reluctant to make their start in one of the large companies,” Wrotek says in a description of the lecture that is posted on Brown University’s Web site. “Some are afraid that they’ll get lost in the crowd, or that they’ll be treated at first as little more than interns. In this talk, I will describe my experiences joining EA as a software engineer after graduating from Brown.”
