PROVIDENCE – For the third time, the Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIFF) has been nominated for a New England Emmy Award for the production of a public service announcement promoting the festival, held every August and based in Providence.
The Board of Governors of the Boston/New England Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences notified festival organizers recently that they are in the running for an award in the category of Community/Public Service (PSAs) Campaigns.

The campaign – entitled “No Excuses” – comprised two television commercials created by William Smyth as director, Miraj Berry as writer/composer and George T. Marshall, executive director of RIFF, as producer. The spots featured actors Richard Donnelly and Phyllis Kaye of the Trinity Repertory Company; they aired on WJAR-TV, Channel 10, in July and August 2007.
RIFF won the New England Emmy for PSAs in 2003. It also was nominated in 2005.
The 31st Boston/New England Emmy Awards will be presented May 10, in a ceremony at the Boston Marriott Hotel, Copley Place. For more information, visit boston.emmyonline.org.
