PROVIDENCE – The Providence Business News has expanded its Web-site content to better serve its increasing number of visitors. PBN.com now has video, a new database of national news stories and a more-comprehensive public relations database.
The new video component – found at lower right on every page - includes the weekly interview segment featuring PBN Editor Mark Murphy and “NBC 10 Sunrise” Anchor Frank Colletta. PBN Video also features Hattie Bryant, of the television show “Small Business School,” offering a new tip each day about best business practices.
Using Real Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds from members publications of the Alliance of Area Business Publications (AABP), PBN.com now hosts a constantly updating collection of stories from around the country. Click on the National News tab in the box at upper right to bring this feature to the front, and on any headline to read the full story.
The Web site’s public relations database – now at upper right on every page – has incorporated regional news releases from the PR Newswire to complement the already rich listing of self-posted press releases on the site. Visitors who register with the site can continue to post local announcements directly to the database by clicking “View All” next to the Latest Local Press Releases.
The home page at PBN.com also has been redesigned, to make it easier to navigate: When visitors click on a blue-text tab at the top of the page, the applicable topic list is featured horizontally rather than vertically, so it does not block story content. The online Calendar, where registered visitors can post their own local events, now has a top-of-the-page tab of its own, while the News Briefs and People pages have moved to the Home tab’s pull-down list.
In addition to these updates to the Web site’s content, PBN.com recently launched five industry-specific weekly e-mail newsletters:
• Monday – Health Care & Life Sciences Update
• Tuesday - Banking & Financial Services Update
• Wednesday - Technology Update
• Thursday - 10 Things To Do This Weekend!
• Friday - Real Estate & Construction Update
“We recognize that our readers are more reliant on Web-based and other electronic news sources than ever,” said Murphy. “In addition to creating a more complete news and information report, we want our readers to be able to find PBN’s particular take on what is important to the region’s business community in the format most convenient to them. For that reason, this is not the last update to PBN.com. Our readers can expect continuing improvements as we feel ready to bring them online.”
