MarcAurele wins 2008 R.I. Humanitarian Award

PROVIDENCE – Joseph J. MarcAurele, president of Citizens Bank of Rhode Island, received the National Jewish Medical and Research Center’s 2008 Rhode Island Humanitarian Award during a luncheon yesterday at The Westin Providence hotel.

Last year, the annual award went to Jim and Marilyn Winoker, the CEO and chairman, respectively, of Belvoir Properties Inc. (READ MORE)

Guest speaker for yesterday’s luncheon was Dr. John Zwetchkenbaum, a local allergist and a former fellow of the Denver-based NJMRC.

The event also featured the induction of Jerrold L. Lavine, of the Freeman Group Ltd., as an NJMRC trustee. Honorary chairmen included U.S. Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse, U.S. Representatives Patrick J. Kennedy and James R. Langevin, Gov. Donald L. Carcieri and Providence Mayor David N. Cicilline.

John Bowen, a trustee of Johnson & Wales University and the NJMRC, served as event chairman for the 2008 Rhode Island Humanitarian Award Luncheon, while Michael Clarkin of Citizens Bank of Rhode Island served as treasurer. Proceeds will benefit the National Jewish Medical and Research Center.
