DEM awards ceremony honors ‘green’ business

Restaurants, hotels and other hospitality-related businesses from across the state gathered at the R.I. Convention Center for the Green Hospitality Certification Awards Program. The businesses were the first in the state to be recognized by the R.I. Department of Environmental Management for completing all the certification requirements of the Green Hospitality Certification Program.

The certification program was developed through a partnership with DEM, Rhode Island Hospitality and Tourism Association, R.I. Division of Tourism, Providence-Warwick Convention and Visitors Bureau, Newport County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Warwick Division of Tourism, Culture and Development, R.I. Airport Corporation, R.I. Convention Center Authority, R.I. Resource Recovery Corporation, The Procaccianti Group and the Newport Harbor Corporation.

There were 32 business that received the DEM-approved green certification, representing 17 hotels and 13 restaurants, including Newport Hospitality Inc. and the R.I. Convention Center. •
