WARWICK – Passenger traffic at T.F. Green Airport (PVD) grew last month, continuing the rise that began in February, according to the latest figures from the R.I. Airport Corporation. Freight and mail traffic also were higher in April than in March, although both cargo and passenger traffic remained below year-ago levels.
A total of 412,471 passengers passed through the airport in April, an increase of 4.8 percent from March’s 393,638 (READ MORE) but a decline of 0.4 percent from the year-ago passenger total of 414,057.
The number of passengers who boarded planes at T.F. Green in April rose to 205,645, RIAC said. That represented an increase of 5.2 percent from March’s 195,527 enplaned passengers and 0.1 percent from the year-ago 205,499.
But the airport still lagged its 2007 monthly average of 418,278 total passengers and 209,155 emplaned passengers.
Southwest Airlines remained No. 1 at T.F. Green last month with 216,243 passengers and a 52.4-percent market share. US Airways was No. 2 with 86,465 passengers or 21.0 percent, followed by United Airlines with 28,729 passengers or 6.4 percent; Delta Airlines with 26,118 or 7.0 percent; Continental at 23,246 or 5.6 percent; Northwest Airlines with 21,323 passengers or 5.2 percent; American Eagle with 6,047 or 1.5 percent; Air Canada with 1,295 or 0.3 percent; and charter planes with 625 passengers or 0.2 percent of the airport’s April total.
Total cargo shipments through T.F. Green last month amounted to 2.47 million pounds, a 0.5-percent increase from March’s 2.46 million pounds but a 29.1-percent decline from the April 2007 total of 3.48 million pounds. April freight shipments totaled 1.92 million pounds, a 3.2-percent increase from March but a 34.2-percent decline from a year ago, while mail shipments amounted to 551,991 pounds, a 3.7-percent increase from the month before but a 2.5-percent decline from April 2007.
