NORTH KINGSTOWN – Applied Radar Inc. rolled out its latest radar signal processor, Titan V5, at this week’s International Microwave Symposium in Atlanta.

“This new technology will enable a variety of new radar and electronic warfare system options,” CEO William H. Weedon said in a statement. “Our team has proven once again that products developed on Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) funds can immediately introduce advanced technology options into our war-fighters’ arsenal.”

The new processor incorporates two Xilinx Virtex-5 field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) – considered the most advanced FPGA processors available, the company said.

The Titan V5’s customizable mezzanine slots allow for various configurations of high-speed multi-channel data acquisition and waveform generation, while its high-speed fiberoptic connections allow the transfer of real-time data from board-to-board.

This allows advanced radar waveforms to be produced, processed and delivered – via fiber optic interconnects – to other processors in a radar system.

The new pipelined architecture supports data rates as high as 30 Gbps, the company said. “Applied Radar is very proud to introduce our advanced-capability radar processor,” added IS Security Manager Tammy Forlingieri.

Applied Radar designs and manufactures phased-array antenna systems, lightweight conformal antennas and other microwave-based detection, navigation and communications systems. Last year, Congress allotted the company $1.4 million to develop a wideband digital airborne sensing array for the Air Force. (READ MORE)
