PROVIDENCE – “For the first time in three weeks, gasoline prices in Rhode Island have risen,” according to AAA Southern New England.
AAA’s July 7 survey of gas prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, unleaded regular averaging $4.109 per gallon, 1 cent more than last week but still 97 cents above the price at the beginning of the year. A year ago, the average price was $2.939.
Nationwide, the price of self-serve regular increased 2 cents over the past week to a nationwide average of $4.10, or about the same as in Rhode Island.
The range in prices for self-serve regular at Ocean State stations this week was 28 cents, from a low of $4.019 to a high of $4.299, the nonprofit auto club said. AAA reported wider price ranges for other grades of fuel, and advised motorists to shop around.
Average self-serve prices for other grades of fuel this week – all up 2 cents per gallon compared with a week ago – were $4.249 per gallon for midgrade unleaded gasoline, $4.359 for premium unleaded and $4.939 for diesel.
