AAA: R.I. gas prices down a penny

PROVIDENCE – “Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are down a penny this week,” AAA Southern New England said today, “and for the last month, AAA surveys have not moved more than 1 cent in either direction.”

AAA’s July 14 survey of prices at local stations found self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline averaging $4.099 per gallon. It was the fifth consecutive weekly reading of either $4.099 or $4.109. Today’s price was 96 cents above the local average at the beginning of the year and $1.12 above the year-ago local price of $2.979 per gallon.

Nationwide, the average price of self-serve regular fell 2 cents over the past week – to $4.08 per gallon –erasing the previous week’s 2-cent gain. (READ MORE)

The range in prices for self-serve regular at Ocean State stations this week was 31 cents, from a low of $3.989 to a high of $4.299, AAA said. The nonprofit auto club urged motorists to shop around for the best gas prices.

Average self-serve prices for other grades of fuel also fell this week in Rhode Island to $4.229 per gallon for midgrade unleaded gasoline (2 cents less than a week ago), $4.329 for premium unleaded (down 3 cents) and $4.929 for diesel (down 1 cent).
