R.I. signs EnerNOC to help monitor, optimize
electrical usage at state, municipal buildings
STATE AND LOCAL OFFICIALS in Rhode Island can begin enrolling their buildings in the company’s PowerTrak and demand-response programd today, EnerNOC Inc. spokesman Stephen Russell said.

PROVIDENCE – Boston-based energy efficiency consultancy EnerNOC Inc. (Nasdaq: ENOC) today announced it has signed a five-year agreement with the State of Rhode Island to manage and optimize the electricity usage of state and local government buildings.

Under the agreement, individual facilities will be able to choose to join EnerNOC’s demand-response network, which will pay them to reduce their electricity consumption during hours of peak demand. The money for those payments will be generated by selling the extra capacity back to the Independent System Operator of New England (regional energy wholesaler ISO NEW England Inc.) Forward Capacity Market.

“This is a positive development in Rhode Island’s broader mission to promote environmentally responsible energy policies, while generating revenue for the state that can be used to fund other government programs,” said Andrew C. Dzykewicz, the governor’s chief energy adviser.

The agreement also will enable state and municipal officials to use the company’s PowerTrak energy-management platform to view and analyze a building’s energy consumption in real time.

“As Rhode Island is facing skyrocketing energy costs and consumers are being asked to pay more for electricity, reducing non-essential consumption is an important component of our commitment to support reliable, cost-effective and environmentally sustainable energy solutions,” Gov. Donald L. Carcieri said in a statement today.

State and local officials can begin enrolling their facilities in the EnerNOC program today, said Stephen Russell, a spokesman for the company.
