THE DSP-3100, a fiber-optic gyroscope still in final testing, is the latest in KVH’s line of FOGs for navigation and targeting applications.

MIDDLETOWN – KVH Industries Inc. (Nasdaq: KVHI) has received another big order for precision fiber-optic gyroscopes from Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, bringing the company’s total orders with KVH to $8 million since April.

The Norwegian company is planning to use the KVH’s DSP-3100 fiber-optic gyros (FOGs) in its Protector family of remote weapon stations, which are designed to enable combat gunners to operate, aim and fire the weapon from inside their vehicles rather than from more-dangerous out-of-turret positions.

“Kongsberg’s Protector will rely on KVH’s new DSP-3100 FOGs to provide precise stabilization and weapon recoil control, while ensuring that the weapon stays on target whether the vehicle is stationary or on the move,” said Chris Watson, a spokesperson for the Middletown-based KVH.

Kongsberg placed a $6 million order for the DSP-3100 gyros in April, which last week was followed by another order valued at $2 million. Both orders are subject to the successful completion of KVH’s testing and qualification for the DSP-3100, which is currently under way.

KVH Industries Inc. (Nasdaq: KVHI) is a maker of live mobile media systems and navigation and guidance systems for defense and civilian use.
