PROVIDENCE – GTECH Corp. unveiled the 10th of 30 planned computer labs through its After School Advantage program at a recent re-opening ceremony for the Elmwood Community Center.
The ceremony commemorated improvements recently made to the center and was attended by state Sen. Juan Pichardo, Mayor David N. Cicilline and Providence City Councilman Miguel Luna, among other guests.
The fully operational $15,000 computer lab sponsored by GTECH is equipped with eight Dell flat-panel computers, a digital printer, desks, chairs and a projector. Each computer has online access and is equipped with educational software. GTECH volunteers worked with Elmwood Community Center staff to design and assemble the lab, which also received a fresh coat of paint.
“GTECH’s generous contribution of a computer lab to the Elmwood Center will greatly expand our ability to offer quality programming and services to Elmwood area youth,” said Frank Corbishley, executive director of Providence Community Action. The Elmwood Community Center provides after-school programming for more than 75 Providence youth. •
