By PBN Staff

PROVIDENCE – “Gasoline prices in Rhode Island have fallen for the eighth consecutive week, a period that has seen prices tumble by more than $1.30 per gallon,” AAA Southern New England said today in its weekly fuel-price report.

AAA’s Nov. 10 survey found the price of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline at Ocean State stations averaged $2.239 per gallon. That was 12 cents less than in last week’s survey (READ MORE) and $1.32 less than on Sept. 15. A year ago, the average Rhode Island price was $3.039.

In neighboring Massachusetts, the average price of self-serve regular fell another 17 cents over the past week – after falling 18 cents the week before and 20 cents the week ended Oct. 27 – to a Nov. 10 average of $2.289 per gallon. It was the eighth decline in as many weeks, “a period that has seen prices tumble by more than $1.30 per gallon,” wrote Arthur Kinsman, the auto club’s director of government affairs. A year ago, the average Bay State price was $2.979.

Nationwide over the past week, the average price of self-serve regular fell 17 cents – slowing from declines of 25 cents in the week ended Nov. 3 and 24 cents in the week ended Oct. 27 – to a Nov. 10 average of $2.249 per gallon, AAA found. That was 4 cents below the average Massachusetts price in this week’s survey but 1 cent above the Rhode Island average.

Meanwhile, at Rhode Island stations this week, the range in self-serve prices for unleaded regular narrowed sharply – to 31 cents from the 60 cents of last week’s survey. Prices today ranged from a low of $2.149 to a high of $2.459, AAA said. Similar ranges were seen for other grades of fuel, which had average self-serve prices of $2.439 for midgrade unleaded (down 9 cents per gallon), $2.549 for premium unleaded gasoline (down 10 cents) and $3.289 for diesel (down 16 cents).
