PROVIDENCE – “Gasoline prices in Rhode Island have fallen for the ninth consecutive week, a period that has seen prices tumble by almost $1.50 per gallon,” AAA Southern New England said today in its weekly fuel-price report.

AAA’s Nov. 17 survey found the price of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline at Ocean State stations averaged $2.109 per gallon. That was 13 cents less than in last week’s survey (READ MORE), $1 less than a month ago and $1.45 less than on Sept. 15. A year ago, the average Rhode Island price was $3.079.

Neighboring Massachusetts also saw prices fall for the ninth straight week. The average price of self-serve regular at Bay State stations fell 20 cents over the past seven days, after falling 17 cents over the week before and 18 cents the week ended Nov. 3 – to a Nov. 17 average of $2.089 per gallon. A year ago, the average Bay State price was $2.999.

Nationwide over the past week, the average price of self-serve regular fell 17 cents – slowing from declines of 17 cents in the week ended Nov. 10, 25 cents in the week ended Nov. 3 and 24 cents in the week ended Oct. 27 – to a Nov. 17 average of $2.089 per gallon, AAA found. That matched the average Massachusetts price in this week’s survey and was 2 cents below the Rhode Island average.

Meanwhile, at Rhode Island stations this week, self-serve prices for unleaded regular had a range of 30 cents, down from 31 cents of a week ago. Today’s prices ran from a low of $1.999 to a high of $2.299, AAA said. Wider ranges were seen for other grades of fuel, which had average self-serve prices of $2.279 per gallon for midgrade unleaded (down 16 cents per gallon), $2.409 for premium unleaded gasoline (down 14 cents) and $3.099 for diesel (down 19 cents).
