WARREN – Pro-Act Microbial Inc., a supplier of waste treatment systems for the agriculture, aquaculture and food-waste industries, has officially changed its name to Pro-Act Biotech.
The Warren-based company said the change to its name reflects the expansion of its business activities into new activities outside of the agricultural sector. The “Pro-Act” part of its name is well established in the industry, and thus has not been changed, the company said.
“Our name has evolved as our company has evolved,” Pro-Act president Bill Campion said in a statement. “The name ‘Pro-Act Biotech’ gives us more freedom to continue to research and improve environmental technology.”
Pro-Act started out providing microbial treatment for the maintenance of dairy waste lagoons and pits. (READ MORE) Although agriculture is still the company’s core base, it is also moving into new areas, such as lake and pond cleaning and aquaculture treatment.
A spokeswoman said the company has been making the transition to the new name since earlier this year.
Established in 2001, Pro-Act had about 100 customers across North America as of last summer, ranging from a small farm with 150 cows in New Hampshire to a large one that has 10,000 cows in Idaho.
