NEWPORT – A local architect has created an iPhone application to help harried hosts organize their Thanksgiving celebrations.

Naomi Neville, principal of Neville Architecture and Environmental Consulting Ltd., said she was intrigued by the idea of using her design skills to create an application that would help people plan their Thanksgiving parties more productively.

Neville’s iHost: Thanksgiving features an animated turkey and then a set of tabs where hosts can track their guest lists, menus, budgets and recipes. The app can handle multiple parties, as well. (Neville created a YouTube video to demonstrate its functions.)

iHost: Thanksgiving app went on sale for 99 cents on Sept. 21 in Apple Inc.’s App Store. At press time, it had earned a four-star rating (out of five) from 11 reviewers.

“I’ve been needing an app like this!” wrote App Store customer emglgk on Oct. 10. “Now I can get rid of my paper lists and know where everything is for the holiday.”

Neville, who has degrees from Yale and Columbia and designs residential and commercial projects throughout the state, described the app as “designed by an overworked architect who strives for clarity.” Although software development is only a hobby for now, she said she could imagine it becoming a full-fledged business of its own if successful.
