IGA in Narragansett closes

The IGA market in the Pier in Narragansett has closed because of financial difficulties, the South County Independent reported.

The market served as an anchor for the recently renovated Pier shopping complex, which includes shops, offices, a restaurant, a hotel and residences. The IGA had replaced a higher-end Belmont Marketplace after that too struggled financially.

The Independent reported that both property manager Gilbane Development Co. and market owner Vincent J. “Jack” Siravo had worked without success to save the discount market.

“We worked with Jack right up through last week,” Bob Gagliardi, director of property management for Gilbane, told the paper. “It was as amicable as can be. Jack wanted it to work, we wanted it to work, he explored a number of avenues, but it didn’t work.”

Gilbane has hired the Spinnaker Group to market the space.
