PROVIDENCE – Two local golf club fitting operations were named to Ping’s list of the top 100 club fitters in the nation for 2016.
Joe & Leigh’s Golf Performance Center in Easton and Spargo Golf in Cranston were included in the annual recognition by the golf club manufacturer of golf shops that “consistently deliver on Ping’s commitment to a superior fitting experience so golfers can play better and enjoy the game more,” according to the company statement making the announcement.

“A lot of companies do a variety of recognition programs, but when Ping goes out of its way to highlight what they consider to be a top fitter, it’s very meaningful,” said Leigh Bader, co-owner of Joe & Leigh’s Golf Performance Center, which is a free-standing golf club fitting location that is connected with the Pine Oaks Golf Course, and Joe & Leigh’s Discount Golf Pro Shop in Easton.

In addition to its recognition as one of the nation’s best club fitters, Joe & Leigh’s is also one of 18 golf fitters in the nation listed on the company website that work with Ping to perform adaptive club fitting for special-needs golfers, including amputees, stroke survivors, blind golfers and others.

A representative from Spargo Golf could not be reached immediately for comment.

“For decades, Ping has shown the correlation between custom fitting and better scores,” said John A. Solheim, Ping chairman and CEO, in prepared remarks. “With a precise fit comes improved play, and Ping-trained fitters have the skill to determine the ideal set of clubs that will bring out the best in a player’s game.”
Winners were chosen based on points earned across several criteria, including custom orders, commitment to ongoing training, sustained sales growth, use of Ping tools and technologies, and support of the entire Ping product line.
