Brown, hospitals earn federal HHS grants

WASHINGTON – Rep. David Cicilline, D-R.I., announced $2.25 million in health-related federal grants for Rhode Island under the auspices of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
&#8226 Brown University received $1,133,158 from the National Center for Research Resources for its Center for Cancer Signaling.
&#8226 The Miriam Hospital received $440,345 from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases for its research on “Acceptance-based behavioral intervention for weight loss: a randomized trial.”
&#8226 The R.I. Department of Health received $228,308 from the Health Resources and Services Administration Division of Grants Management Operations for its universal newborn hearing screening and intervention.
&#8226 Butler Hospital received $215,534 from the National Institute of Mental Health for mental-health research related to childhood maltreatment.
&#8226 Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island received $176,584 from the National Cancer Institute to promote cancer screening among Latino men. &#8226
