SBA program reveals contract opportunities

PROVIDENCE- The Rhode Island branch of the federal Small Business Administration will be holding an informational workshop to help those starting or expanding a small business.

The workshop will introduce the programs and services available from the SBA, including governmental contracting opportunities that are available through the SBA’s HubZone program.

The workshop will be held on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, at 10 a.m., at the Woonsocket Harris Public Library, 303 Clinton St., Woonsocket.

The Historically Underutilized Business Zones – HUBZone program – helps small businesses in urban and rural communities gain access to federal procurement opportunities.

There are 44 designated HUBZones in Rhode Island, 27 of which are in Providence.

HUBZones allow for competitive and sole source contracting, according to an SBA release. The federal government has a goal of awarding three percent of all money for federal prime contracts to HUBZone-certified small businesses.

For more information, visit the HUBZone website or call contact Matthew Spoehr at the SBA by calling (401) 528-4561 or email matthew.spoehr@sba.gov.
